MAXIM - While the COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers are measuring the percentage of effectiveness, we still have to take precautions and wear masks in public. But bad luck, because of them, it turns out, the face can be capricious and reward you with acne, and in the common people - with acne.

For the first time they started talking about this in the spring, when they began to notice that the areas of the skin to which the masks are attached are covered with acne. This phenomenon was named "maskne".

Physicians are most susceptible to maskne, because they wear masks more often and longer than others. A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology reports that at least 83% of healthcare workers in China's Hubei province suffer from facial skin problems.

It can also occur in women and extravagant men who wear too much makeup. But in general, everything is individual. You can wear at least a doormat on your face, and not a single pimple will bother you, but you can put on a sterile mask, and acne will appear in half an hour. Nevertheless, there are still general recommendations on what to do so that your face does not look like you are 14 again!

1. Change your mask every two hours!

We all understand, she is your first and beloved, it's hard to part with her. Since March, every day she gently touches your face and playfully tickles her lips with pellets. But it's time to leave her. Once and for all.

If a toad chokes you because you have to throw out the mask without bringing it to the holes, then buy yourself a few pieces of fabric that can be washed every night.

Change the mask as soon as it gets wet. Because moisture is a great breeding ground for bacteria. Also, a wet mask stops filtering the air. And remember, the mask is not a soldier's footcloth, you cannot turn it over and wear it for the rest of the week.

2. Take a break from the mask

As effective as masks are, you shouldn't sleep in them. And walking in it all day is also harmful. Take breaks at least every four hours for fifteen minutes if you are not in a crowded place. Your face will be grateful to you.

3. Wash your mouth with soap!

Do you remember how your parents threatened you when you brought dirty words home from the street? Now is the time to fulfill their promises. Just remove the soap, we were joking.

Everything is much simpler. It is enough to brush your teeth with a toothbrush twice a day and additionally sanitize your mouth with mouthwash / foam after each meal. Because bacteria that multiply in the mouth due to food residues get on the mask, and from the mask on the face. Such a menagerie will not do your beautiful face.

4. Wear a face mask on your face!

Not in the back pocket of your jeans, not on your elbow or at the bottom of your backpack, because this way you collect all the germs and bacteria that are around it. And then you put them on your face (they are just waiting for this).

5. Wash your face before and after the mask

You just don't need to use laundry soap and a stone scraper for this. This, of course, will help you cleanse your face, but not from dirt, but from the top layer of skin.

Use soft and delicate foams for washing. And do not be afraid, this will not shake your masculinity.

6. Carry a blotter with you

No, you don’t have to go to the mezzanine to get the blotting paper that your father used to wear to school. An ordinary scarf (cotton, if you are an aristocrat in the third generation, and paper, if you are an ordinary man in the street) is enough to sometimes remove sweat from under the mask. Because sweat is an excellent medium for the development of all kinds of dirty tricks. Yes, and thanks to this, touching your face with dirty hands will become a little less.

Here are some more tips from a dermatologist

1. If there is no problem yet, but there is oily / combination skin and active work of the sebaceous glands (due to stress and against the background of the greenhouse space above the skin traumatized by the mask), wash your face with a sebum-regulating anti-inflammatory gel, use matting soothing creams (fluids) in the morning and in the evening.

In the evening after cleansing, you can use a gentle cleansing mask and moisturizing serum with prebiotics (this will support the skin microbiome and minimize the risk of inflammation).

2. If the masks have already settled on the face, purchase a stop-acne product at the pharmacy (this is a paste, gel or liquid in mini-packages from the assortment of most brands of medical cosmetics: Cleanance Avene, Hyseak Uriage, Effaclar La Roche Posay, Keracnyl Ducray , Sébium Bioderma, Exfoliac Noreva, etc.) and apply several times a day to the inflammatory elements themselves. If there are more than ten of these elements, an in-person consultation with a dermatologist and the selection of drug treatment is necessary.

Two news (good and bad) for beard owners: facial hair interferes with the protective properties of the mask (if you counted on them at all), but the mask leans less against the face and, therefore, hardly irritates the skin.
